The wind whistles through the cracks in the unsealed window. Frost climbs up the inside of the transparisteel and a few stray flakes flutter inside. Satine swallows a comment that her father definitely would have said wasn’t ladylike. She knows that she should be grateful that they weren’t outside in this weather, but the dilapidated inn they’d found on the outskirts of town doesn’t seem much better at the moment.
No electricity. No heat. No running water—there was nothing she wouldn’t give for a hot shower right now—and one tiny bed in the center of the room.
Master Jinn walks passed her and sheds his cloak, which is soaked from the blizzard they’d been caught in. Satine catches a smell and turns her head away. She likes Master Jinn. He had been a welcome and comforting presence during the last two months on the run, but there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t give for a shower for him right now too.
She probably can’t talk. She certainly doesn’t smell like a bed of roses.
Qui-Gon hangs the cloak by the door, looks at the bed as if considering it for the first time, and then looks back at her.
“Do you have a preference for a side, Duchess?”
A preference?
Yes, please. Her soft, fluffy bed on Kalevala, if you don’t mind.
“Right, I suppose.”
Qui-Gon gestures to the bed, not a hint of embarrassment or discomfort. She’s glad for it. No need to make this situation more awkward than it already is.
Satine hangs up her own wet cloak and then crawls in fully clothed. She looks at the giant Jedi skeptically, wondering how on earth this was going work. She resigns herself to a tight squeeze, but the bed is short even for her. It would never fit him.
Qui-Gon crawls beneath the covers and settles next to her. She angles herself on the edge of the mattress to give him as much space as possible, and by lying on his side and pulling his knees up slightly, he just manages to get his giant frame on the bed.
This could actually work, she thinks.
She relaxes into the bed, already grateful for the combined heat. If the room got any colder than it already was, at least they wouldn’t freeze to death.
#THE PHANTOM MENACE #ROGUE ONE #THE MANDALORIAN S2E08 - “THE RESCUE” #ALL THESE FUCKERS ARE PART OF THE SAME LINEAGE #AND ALL SHOWING WHY FORCE SENSITIVES ARE JUST FUCKOFF POWERFUL #NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM SO MUCH AS BROKE A SWEAT AGAINST AN ENTIRE SQUAD SENT AGAINST THEM #THE PARALLELS OF QUI-GON TO OBI-WAN TO ANAKIN TO LUKE #ARE CINEMATIC FUCKING POETRY #BUT ALSO HOLY SHIT THE JEDI (AND FORMER JEDI) ARE INSANE IN WHAT THEY CAN DO SO EASILY #LIKE I’M JUST SITTING HERE IN AWE ALL OVER AGAIN
Instead of addressing my current state of grief over years of work thrown into certain jeopardy, I’m going to supply links for abortion access and reproductive justice initiatives.
Abortionfunds.org will help connect you to organisations that can help with financial and practical support for people seeking abortion. You can also donate through the website to the National Network of Abortion Funds!
Abortion Care Network –“…National association for independent community-based, abortion care providers and their allies. Together we work to ensure the rights of all people to experience respectful, dignified abortion care. The #KeepOurClinics campaign is our latest effort to protect access to abortion care in our country.
“ This is another great organisation to donate to if you are able–it helps to fund independent clinics and keep them open and operating. Indie clinics perform 58% of abortion care in America, and are closing at alarming rates, which in turn prevents thousands of people having practical access to care.
Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Mississippi ALL have trigger laws in place so that in the event of Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion would become illegal and criminalised to varying degrees. Access Reproductive Care–Southeast helps to provide logistical and financial aid to people in these states seeking abortion care. You can also donate to, and volunteer with the organisation in order to help build a stronger network of allies.
Arkansas ALSO has a trigger law in place, and you can donate and volunteer, and seek assistance, with Arkansas Abortion Support Network.
Northwest Abortion Access Fund– keeping in mind Idaho also has a trigger law in place that will outlaw abortion with the dissolution of RvW.
Also look up on Abortionfunds.org states like Missouri, West Virginia, South and North Dakota where, last I checked, have only one abortion clinic in the entire state. People in these states, for all intents and purposes, already live in a post Roe world due to strict regulation and lack of access to clinics when one must drive across an entire state, perhaps to another state entirely, to find help, and then must submit to waiting periods, etc. Between travel, hotel rooms, food, and lack of insurance coverage for abortion care, people are effectively robbed of choice due to the financial burden.
Lastly, All Options Network is a fantastic resource to connect with if you are in a crisis pregnancy and want to talk to counselors who give judgement-free emotional support as you go over your pregnancy options, and eager to help in any way they can. They offer financial support for people who choose to seek abortion, and also pragmatic help in supplying diapers to those who struggle to afford them.
Donate where you can, volunteer where you can, and reach out for help if you need it! Grassroots reproductive justice organisations are an invaluable resource in your communities, and they have been in the trenches fighting unjust policies aimed at robbing people of dignity and agency for years.
Also feel free to add to this if you have a local organisation that you know to be a reputable resource for pro-choice care!
there are only three clinics that provide abortions in louisiana. Lift Louisiana is the state’s reproductive rights organization, which does legislative organizing, trains people to walk with patients into the clinics past protesters, and is a reputable source of information on where to actually get abortions, which is really important in a state with only three legitimate providers and many “crisis pregnancy centers”
I love Mando’s vibe. Imagine some guy rolling up to your shop in a beat up honda civic. He steps out wearing an armani suit. He opens his wallet and offers you two dollars to fix his car.
